About the Atlantic Yards Map
This map shows how the Ratner plan might effect the landscape of Prospect Heights. I use generic grey buildings to represent the mass of the builds. The sizes are my best estimates based on walking around, my photos, and the wonderfully crafted Google Earth 3D-map. In addition to these images, I also provide several photos of the streets surrounding the site.
One of the main arguments Bruce Ratner and his supporters make for his plan is that the area, around the Railyards, is blighted. By this he and his backers rationalize that Ratner should receive government backed loans and be able to use Eminent Domain to grab private property around the yards so he can build a sports complex and a dozen or so towers, some which would include affordable housing.
What I hope to show in this map is the character of the streets both to the north and the south of the railyards. These are overwhelmingly vibrant and beautiful areas. If you click around the blue pins you will see for yourself. There are some empty and run down buildings here and there around the site, but the vast majority of these are actually owned and kept empty by Bruce Ratner himself.
