Today the NYTime's (Arthur Sulzberger) published an endorsement of David Yassky for the CD-11 congressional district in Brooklyn. Yassky is the NYTime's Atlantic Yards candidate.

If one wanted to be generous about David Yassky's position on Atlantic Yards, we could call him wishy washy or a flip flopper. That would be being nice.

Here is Yassky's typical position on Atlantic Yards:

"...the current project is way too big. There’s no place for 60-story towers in Brooklyn. I believe the project will create traffic nightmares unless it’s inaudible back. I want to see a way to make this project go forward so we can realize the benefits that it does promise--good jobs, affordable housing..."

The benefits, the benefits, the benefits... what benefits? Going over the numerous misleading false promises of Ranter's plan is beyond the scope of this post. But that Yassky continually plays as if Ratner's plan contains these benefits is willfull aiding and abetting of Ratner and his paid agents, e.g. BUILD, Bertha Lewis, and ACORN. Aiding and abetting in what has been a backroom corrupt process from the start.

The NYTimes ironically cites Yassky is a champion of Affordable Housing.

onNYTurf belches its barbaric guffaw!

Not only has Yassky raised more than 1 million dollars with significant contributions coming from real estate developers - including criminals - his support for the Greenpoint-Williamsburg waterfront deal will do more to displace and destroy affordability in that area than preserve it. It is a massive secondary displacement engine. (for the skeptical - just sit back and watch what happens the next few years).

Not only is Yassky in lock step with developers in general, Yassky has asked city council for $3 million to fund the so-called jobs training organization BUILD. BUILD is a sham organization that has no experience in job training and was set up specifically to back Ratner's plan, and received funding from Ratner. The money Yassky asked for was to make up for additional funding Ratner seemed to pull back on after the embarrassing relationship between BUILD and Ratner was learned.

We all know the NYTimes is having their castle on 8th Ave built by Ranter, we also all know that the property on 8th Ave was acquired using eminent domain, and that the NYTimes has endorsed the Atlantic Yards project without reservation. Now the NYTimes has their Atlantic Yards/Ratner candidate for CD-11.

UPDATE

Friends In High Places

This was just emailed to me, Yassky quickly cancelled a fund-raiser with controversial Brooklyn architect Robert Scarano last night once it became publicly known.

"City Councilman David Yassky (D-Brooklyn Heights) came under fire for nearly allowing controversial Brooklyn architect Robert Scarano to host a
fund-raiser for him that was slated for last night.

The event, to be held at Scarano's DUMBO offices, was abruptly canceled
yesterday following calls by the Daily News..."

"Scarano... was investigated by the Buildings Department for allegedly
unsafe practices following worker injuries. He settled with the city last
month and agreed to forfeit signing off on his own building plans."
