Quadriad Vote Tabled, Williamsburg Residents Pack CB1 Meeting Last Night
Last night Community Board 1 in Williamsburg was to take up consideration of a development proposal by Quadriad Realty to put a 24 story tower between Bedford and Berry. But the vote was tabled after more than 100 concerned people packed the meeting with most speaking out against the proposal. Last week the proposal was approved by the ULURP committee in a tight vote 10-9. Since then City Council member David Yasski spoke against the proposed location saying it is not an appropriate site for such a development. Approval of the proposal would mean CB1 would override the brand new rezoning in Williamsburg which was designed to push hi-rise development to the waterfront and protect the inland area as low scale.
Quadriad would like to put the 24 story building and as of right luxury development on the site at North 3rd and Barry to 4th and Bedford. The proposal is the first part of a broader desire to build on 8 blocks in the heart of Williamsburg.
