So at what point will the Manhattan or Brooklyn district attorney jump in and subpoena the IP records at NYPD Rant for death threats made on Council Member Charles Barron? Or are death threats only taken seriously when they are made against those the police and administration like?

I-Witness video reports The group 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care is calling for an investigation into death threats made against New York City Council Member Charles Barron on the NYPD Rant website earlier this week. According to I-Witness video this is the second time this has happened. I-Witness has an archive record of the last time this happened.

Lets look at how easy it would be to figure out who these people are.

Now, you can bet that ezboard.com has some server logs around and given the owner is in the US he's pretty much going to have to turn them over if delivered a subpoena or he can spend some time in jail. Even if he does not have logs (highly unlikely) the FBI could easily set up a sting operation and log the next time the threating person posted under that user id on the rant site. Once you have the IP address of the poster, you can then go to the referring ISP (likely Time Warner Cable) and you can subpoena their ass for the internet service subscriber who was associated with that IP address that day. You can bet they would do it to you if you ever threatened a government official or member of the NYPD. So what's the hold up Morgenthau? Hynes? anyone at Internal Affairs?
